Lahore: Government likely to form task forces against land mafia

* CM’s Secretariat officials say Shahbaz Sharif to be chairman of provincial task force

LAHORE: The Punjab government is likely to constitute task forces at the provincial and district levels to take action against people who have taken over government and private land, sources within the Chief Minister’s Secretariat told Daily Times on Wednesday.

Islamabad: Foundation fails to acquire land for Sector G-14

The Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) has failed to acquire land for Sector G-14 despite a passage of four years when it launched the sector and received full instalments.

The inordinate delay in acquisition of land by the Foundation has almost doubled the cost of plots and built up property in Sector G-14 besides imposing of Central Excise Duty (CED) on sale and purchase of plots in the recent budget, a source in the foundation told APP.

S Korea to help Pakistan build low-cost houses

KARACHI: Pakistan can easily overcome the worsening problem of housing by using the latest Korean technology and can build over 10,000 houses in a period of 3 to 4 months, said Choe Su Il, Korean Consul General in Pakistan.

He was talking in a meeting with the chairman of housing committee of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Munir Sultan the other day.

RAWALPINDI: 38 housing schemes declared illegal

The Potohar Town administration has declared 38 housing schemes illegal out of 55 in its jurisdiction.

Potohar Town Nazim Hamid Nawaz Raja has warned the public against investing in these fake housing societies. He made this announcement talking to the town administration after a briefing by the planning department.

He also asked the administration to inform people about status of different housing societies and directed it to take stern action against the people responsible.

The hiccups in development of residential sectors D-12, I-15 and G-13 are adding to the woes of the allottees -- thanks to the slow pace of work, lack of professionalism and the row between the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the contractors.

Thousands of those low-income allottees, who have invested their hard-earned money, are being kept ignorant about the fate of their plots.

Islamabad: Industrial plots to be moved to Sector I-17

Capital Development Authority (CDA) will soon shift pollution-causing industries from residential areas of the capital to a new industrial estate being set up in Sector I-17 to save the residents from health risks and protect flora and fauna of the area. A CDA official said the authority had acquired land for establishment of the industrial estate. He said the CDA would equip the proposed industrial estate with all basic facilities for proper disposal of waste particularly emitted by marble industries.

Islamabad’s revised master plan put into cold storage by CDA

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) after doing a lot of hard work in preparing revised Master Plan of Islamabad has put it in the cold storage.

The civic body started work on revision of the master plan of federal capital by involving local partners of a UK-based consultants namely ‘MM Pakistan’.

After holding seminars and consulting stakeholders including citizens, planners, businessmen etc the document of revised master plan was given final shape towards end of tenure of the Shaukat Aziz government.

Islamabad: Work on Zero Point Interchange from August 14

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced that work on much-delayed Zero Point Interchange project would start on August 14.

A CDA senior official said Tuesday that the committee has awarded the contract to a Karachi-based construction firm M/s Maqbool Associate and it has been given go-ahead.

He said the Authority is working to finalise terms and conditions of the agreement with the firm that would take about a couple of weeks.

Earlier, the CDA chairman had announced at a news briefing that work on the project would be started on 15 July that has already passed.

ISLAMABAD: 845 residential houses hosting commercial activities

The non-conforming use of residential apartments in the federal capital is going unchecked despite serious security threats posed by the phenomenon.
Presently, there are 845 residential houses in the city hosting commercial activities, out of which 206 are used for private schools, 299 for offices of government or private organizations, 112 for guest houses, 53 for embassies and foreign missions while 175 houses are used for other commercial activities like beauty parlors, gyms and so on, informed a high official of the Authority.
