Islamabad: Senate body asks CDA to withdraw fine on Sector I-16 allottees

The Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurances Monday asked Capital Development Authority (CDA) to withdraw notices issued to allottees of I-16 for imposition of fines due to delays in initiation of construction work.

The committee was of the view that CDA has failed to provide necessary facilities needed for undertaking construction work to the allottees.

The Committee reviewed in detail the progress about development work going on in sector I-16 and said that the sector was meant for poor and middle class who is in need of accommodation, but the authority could not deliver services.

Cabinet Secretary as well as Member (Planning) and other officers of CDA briefed the committee about development activities in the sector.

The Committee considered various assurances given on behalf of the government in the Senate from time to time.

It expressed concern over absence of concerned Ministers, Advisers. The Chairman of the Committee observed that the Ministers, advisers and officers should give due importance to Parliamentary committee as they are equally supreme.

Abdul Sami Shaikh, Project Director (CO), Iesco assured the Committee that electricity Grid Station of Sector I-16 shall become operation on July 15, as per assurance given the Iesco to the Committee.

However, he said other supply lines will be energized on the request of allottees when they will start construction work of their houses as there are incidents of theft of electric equipment and appliance due to lack of security.

The Committee directed the Inspector General Police, ICT to establish a police check post in the sector for provision of security to residents who have already started construction work or planning to start construction.

The Committee expressed its displeasure for creating unnecessary hurdles in promotion of Humayun Iqbal Shami, Deputy Director, Staff Welfare Organisation, despite the assurance given in the Senate by the then Minister Incharge as well as before the Committee by Adviser to Prime Minister for Cabinet.

The Committee directed the establishment division for submission of a report over the issue in next committee meeting.

The members of the committee included senators Dr. Safdar Abbasi, Suriya Amiruddin, Sabina Rauf, Abdur Rashid and Syed Javed Ali Shah.
