Gilani approves 2pc quota for newspaper employees

Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has approved allocation of two per cent quota for newspaper employees in the Prime Ministerís Housing Scheme, says a press release.

For proper implementation of the scheme under which around one million houses would be built, a committee, headed by Federal Minister for Housing and Works Rehmatullah Kakar, has been constituted.

Apnec Chairman (Rawalpindi-Islamabad Chapter) Syed Ikram Bukhari, Apnec Secretary and President Newspaper Workers Organisation Kaleem Shamim, Apnec Advisory Council President Mohammad Siddique Anzar and The News Union General Secretary Tahir Malik will be members of the committee.

The names of two more members would be announced later. Matters pertaining to the formation of the committee and other details for finalisation of the scheme were discussed at length in a meeting between the Apnec delegation and the Federal Minister for Housing and Works Rehmatullah Kakar on Wednesday. It was decided in the meeting that houses for newspaper employees would be constructed at one place.

Application forms in this regard would be available from September 1, which would be submitted to the committee with down payment of Rs 50,000. It was also decided in the meeting that the remaining amount would be collected in easy installments after handing over of houses to newspaper workers. The installments could be paid within 20 years. The federal minister told the meeting that the Askari Bank had agreed to provide loans to newspaper employees and a circular in this regard would be released in couple of days.
