ISLAMABAD: Plan to construct 15,500 flats for low-income people

About 15,500 flats will be built in different cities of Sindh under the Workers Welfare Fund to solve housing problems of people in low-income groups.

About 3,000 flats are under construction in Karachi, 1,500 in Hyderabad, 512 in Kotri, 600 in Sukkur, 500 each in Ghotaki, Badin, Dahirki, Larkana and Nawabshah and 200 each in Khairpur and Tando Mohammad Khan.

Apart from this, 1,200 flats will be constructed in the industrial areas of Bin Qasim, Korangi and Landhi and Site Area in Karachi.

Sindh Labour Secretary Alamuddin Bullo briefed federal Labour Minister Syed Khursheed Shah on the plan at a meeting held to review welfare schemes launched in Sindh for the labour community.

The minister appreciated the move and urged the authorities concerned to complete the schemes as early as possible.

The meeting decided to upgrade four model schools to the intermediate level in Karachi, Sukkur and Hyderabad and turn some primary schools into model schools.

The meeting also decided to set up trauma centres in Sukkur, burns unit in Larkana, Nawabshah and Sukkur and cardiac unit in Kalsoom Bahi Valika Hospital in Karachi and the Sindh Employees Social Security Institute in Karachi.

The meeting recommended construction of nursing training schools in Sukkur and Karachi.

Federal Labour Secretary Malik Asif Hayat, Sindh Workers Board DG Zafar Saleem and senior officials of the labour ministry also attended the meeting.
