ISLAMABAD: Three more avenues on the cards

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to construct three new avenues in the federal capital to help streamline the traffic flow.

These roads include 6th Avenue, 10th Avenue and 11th Avenue and will link Kashmir Highway to Khayaban-e-Iqbal.

The 6th Avenue will be constructed in Sector G-6, 10th Avenue between Sector G-9 and G-10 while 11th Avenue would be constructed between Sector G-10 and G-11.

According to sources, the construction of 11 Avenue would be started first. Eleven underpasses and flyovers would be constructed on the avenue to be completed with the total cost of Rs 440 million.

The design of the road has been prepared and applications have been sought from the construction firms for pre-qualification process till September 25. After that the tenders of the road would be sought.

The work of the construction of 10th avenue would be given to the selected firm till September 30 and the firm would prepare the design of the project in 6 months and Rs 26.365 million would be paid to the construction firm.

Six underpasses and flyovers would be constructed at 6th Avenue and the firm for the preparation of the design of the road and bridges would be selected at the end of this month and would be paid Rs 19.776 million.Sources told that the time of two years have been fixed for the construction of these three roads.

Zero Point construction adds to commuters' woes: The citizens are facing problems as the federal capital has been divided into two parts owing to the work on Zero Point Interchange and Faisal Avenue.

Sources said about 90 percent transportation link to sectors H-8, H-9, G-8, G-9 to G-7, G-6. F-7, F-6 has been suspended due to ineffective traffic plan of Zero Point and absence of any alternative traffic plan of Faisal Avenue.

Ineffectiveness of the alternative traffic plan was exposed during the protest observed by the lawyers on September 4.

The citizens while narrating their problems said that it a mammoth task for traffic of Faisal Avenue, Kashmir Highway, Aabpara Road, PIMS Road and Blue Area Service Road to reach their destination by using substandard road. Online
