LHC seeks record of 15,000 kanals of land encroached in Murree

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Khawaja Muhammad Sharif took suo motu notice of the encroachment of 15,000 kanals of prime forestland in Murree by alleged land grabbers. The CJ directed the Punjab forests secretary and Rawalpindi division forests officer to appear in court on February 1, and also directed the Punjab advocate general to ensure compliance of this order and also assist the court. The CJ remarked, “Pakistan is already facing threat of deforestation and has very low ratio of forests as compared to global standards.” The CJ further remarked that by taking cognizance of this matter, he would like to know the actual and factual position.
