Work on Bhara Kahu Housing Project would be initiated soon, Minister for Housing and Works Rehmatullah Kakar told APP on Monday.
The minister said that about 3,000 kanals of land in the area had been purchased, where 15,000 plots would be allotted to the government employees, common people and journalists.
Kakar added that 5,000 plots would be allotted to the registered applicants.
Kakar explained that the allotment would be made to the government employees on ‘no profit no loss basis’. “About two percent quota has been allocated for journalists,” he elaborated.
He said the present government was striving from the very inception to overcome the housing shortage. “Soon after taking the charge, the government announced to construct one million houses across the country under ‘Prime Minister’s Housing for All Program’, he added.
He informed this news agency that around eight million more housing units were needed in the country to meet shortage of houses.
The minister said that 100,000 to 200,000 houses were being constructed in the private sector while the government was building the rest.
